Slovakia Tesla FSD: is FSD (TAD) allowed now?

Yes, legally. On 16 October 2026 the Ministry of Transport said it had officially recognised the preliminary type approval of Tesla FSD (TAD), so drivers on Slovak roads will be able to use it.

That makes Slovakia the ninth EU country to allow it, nine days after the transport minister, Jozef Ráž, said on 7 October that recognition was coming.

There is no date for owners yet. Tesla still have to enable it, and they haven't said when.

The tracker now shows Approved. I'll update it again when the rollout starts.

Who decides in Slovakia

The Štátny dopravný úrad, the State Transport Office, is the type approval authority. It sits under the Ministry of Transport. My regulators page lists taa@mindop.sk as their type approval contact.

Slovakia are not running their own technical assessment. They are recognising the Dutch one.

The Dutch RDW granted a provisional approval on 10 April 2026, under Article 39 of Regulation (EU) 2018/858. Any other member state can accept that for its own roads, in writing.

Slovakia gave that recognition on 16 October 2026.

Ten have done it so far: the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovakia and, on 26 October 2026, Latvia.

What changes for owners

Not much yet.

Recognition decides what is allowed on Slovak roads, and Slovakia has now given it. It is not a software release. Tesla still have to switch it on for eligible cars and software versions, and they haven't said when.

So if you're waiting on Tesla Assisted Driving in Slovakia, the legal bit is done and the button comes later. Tesla haven't put a date on it.

You stay responsible for the car. FSD (TAD) is driver assistance. Ráž said it himself: the driver is still fully responsible.

No Tesla demo rides are listed for Slovakia on my demo rides page.

How Slovakia could vote at the TCMV

Slovakia have not published a voting position. Recognising the Dutch approval doesn't commit them to one.

Reuters quoted Ráž saying the data shows these cars reduce the accident rate. That reads supportive. I suspect Slovakia will vote yes when the TCMV vote comes round, but that is my guess, not a published position.

An EU wide approval needs a qualified majority in the committee. They last discussed it on 6 October 2026 and didn't vote. December is the earliest.

I'll update this page when the rollout starts.

FAQ

Is Tesla FSD (TAD) approved in Slovakia?

Yes. On 16 October 2026 the Ministry of Transport officially recognised the Dutch RDW preliminary approval, so it is allowed on Slovak roads. Tesla haven't given a rollout date.

What did Slovakia recognise?

The RDW approval of 10 April 2026, accepted for Slovak roads. It's the Article 39 route, the same one the eight countries before them used.

Is Slovakia the ninth country?

Yes. The eight before them are the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Croatia.

When can Slovak owners use it?

No date yet. Recognition sorted the legal side on 16 October 2026. Tesla then have to enable it for eligible cars and software versions, and they haven't said when. Until they do, there's nothing to switch on in Slovakia.

Am I still responsible for the car?

Yes. FSD (TAD) is driver assistance, so you are responsible at all times. The minister said it himself: the driver is still fully responsible.
