Last checked: 31 October 2026
There's no official UK release date for FSD (Supervised) TAD yet. It isn't approved in the UK: I list it as Under Review, with an H1 2027 target. That target is my estimate, not a date from the VCA or Tesla.
EU national approvals don't apply automatically in Great Britain. For the current status and the date I last checked it, see is Tesla FSD available in the UK?
Where TAD (FSD) stands now
On 8 October 2026 Tesla renamed FSD (Supervised) to Tesla Assisted Driving (TAD) in the UK and Europe. Same supervised product. New name.
In the EU, several countries have recognised the Dutch RDW provisional type approval under Article 39 of Regulation (EU) 2018/858. As of 31 October 2026 that list has 10 countries: the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Belgium, Denmark, Slovenia, Czechia, Croatia, Slovakia and Latvia. Track them on the EU tracker.
The UK is not on that list. The VCA has said Article 39 decisions do not apply automatically in GB.
UK legal route for supervised TAD (FSD)
Robotaxi-style passenger service permits under the Automated Vehicles Act 2024 have been in force since 15 May 2026. The rest of the Act's self-driving framework is aimed at the second half of 2027.
TAD (FSD) as sold today is still supervised Level 2 assistance. The driver stays responsible. So the live gate is GB type approval / exemption work at the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA), under rules such as UN R79 and UN R171 (DCAS).
The AV Act doesn't block a supervised launch. It just doesn't replace the VCA step.

What has to happen next
For a UK customer release, the path looks like this:
- Tesla apply to the VCA for a GB route (exemption or type approval).
- Tesla file a safety case and evidence that fits British roads and rules.
- The VCA reviews that file, and may want its own testing.
- If approved, Tesla push an over-the-air enablement to eligible cars.
I haven't seen any public confirmation that a complete VCA application is on the desk. Treat that as unknown until Tesla or the VCA say otherwise.
Comparison snapshot
| Region | Approval status | Key regulator | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK | Under Review | DfT / VCA | Site target H1 2027. No customer TAD (FSD). |
| Netherlands | Approved (10 Apr 2026) | RDW | First EU provisional type approval. Rollout on HW4. |
| Other EU (Art. 39) | Mixed | National authorities | Eight countries approved on the tracker so far. Others wait or oppose. |
| EU-wide TCMV path | Not voted yet | TCMV / Commission | December 2026 at the earliest, on current public signals. Does not bind the UK. |
Why the UK is slower than the RDW path
Post-Brexit, GB does not auto-recognise Dutch or EU Article 39 files.
UK regulators also want UK-relevant evidence. Roundabouts, left-hand traffic, British signage, our lovely weather. Shadow-mode data from UK cars helps, but it isn't the same as a finished VCA decision.
A separate UNECE track matters too. Series 02 of UN R171 is expected around January 2027. That could open a cleaner standard type-approval route for supervised systems. It still needs Tesla to file a compliant build, and it still needs a GB recognition step for UK cars.
Projected UK timing
Realistic window on this site: H1 2027 for supervised TAD (FSD).
That assumes Tesla apply, the VCA review doesn't stall, and nothing ugly turns up in the safety case. It's not a promise.
Robotaxi-style passenger service permits under the Automated Vehicles Act 2024 have been in force since 15 May 2026. The rest of the Act's self-driving framework is aimed at the second half of 2027. Supervised TAD (FSD) still needs its own VCA step. That's a different gate.
